The Zebra Story
Zebra Collective was founded in 2003 by 7 friends, all of whom worked in social care, health, community work and/or education. We held in common a commitment to social justice and a wish to create our own entity that could be a good workplace where we could decide how best to reflect and express our values, and commit to high quality work.
It's been a heady 21 years, and in 2024 we're doing some of our best work - browse the website to read about the current range of this work.
Core Values, vision and mission
Zebra’s core value is social and environmental justice. This is reflected in all we do - in our equalities offers, through all other work strands and into every element of our internal working.
Our vision: A just and sustainable society.
Our mission: To influence change in public life and personal lives towards our vision of a just and sustainable society, through our community work, reflective learning programmes, reflective practice work, facilitation, action research and organisation/ culture change work.
Our working model
The structure of Zebra Collective – a worker co-operative – was chosen by its founders as a model which reflects our values, vision and mission, and which offers an excellent workplace in which the flat structure, shared ownership and broad-reaching equality maximises worker control over our working life.
As set out in the objects of the Zebra Collective Articles of Association, we don’t distribute our profits amongst the directors but put our profits back into the development of the collective, and to support social, charitable and cooperative purposes.
